What is the National Initiative for Democracy?

We the People

The National Initiative for Democracy (NI4D) is a proposal which will permit the People to make or change laws by initiative.

  • Concise and publically vetted, over 100 years in the making
  • Builds on experience with state-level procedures
  • 24 states already allow state-level initiatives
  • Endorsed by some highly respected people
  • Becomes a new check in our system of checks and balances
  • Does not eliminate Congress, the President, or the judicial system

Great stuff.  I encourage everyone to go to http://www.ni4d.us/ to learn more, then vote for the National Initiative. B.

Even more info…

How to open a PHP file with KompoZer under Windows

Posted on June 4th, 2008 by bodhi.

My hope is this obscure post will save some other web developer hours of research.  A tip of the hat to Ralpharama for posting the hint that led to this solution.

Need:
Some of my web clients want to be able to make simple updates to their web pages without my help. I have them use KompoZer, a freeware WYSIWYG web page authoring program.

For most of my clients I use PHP includes to implement the nav bar links in the page header and footer. So their web pages are primarily html, with one or two PHP include statements.

Problem:
KompoZer, without extensions, under Windows, fails to open PHP files. If you install Kazé’s HandCoder and NsmConText extensions, KompoZer will open PHP files, but replaces any unicode characters with “?” and makes some other curious reformatting changes.

A Solution:
Simply renaming the file from, for example, home.php to home.htm, will do the trick. KompoZer opens the file as an HTML file, no problem. It is a bit of a hassle for the user though, since they have to remember to rename the file for editing, then rename it back when finished editing.

A Better Solution:
1. Find the KompoZer profile folder. In Windows XP it will be here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\KompoZer\Profiles\<xxxxxxxx>.default

where <user> is your user name and <xxxxxxxx> is a random string of letters and numbers. Note you need to enable the “Show hidden files and folders option” in Windows file explorer to do this. More info about how to do that here…

2. In this folder locate the file mimeTypes.rdf and rename it to something like mimeTypes.old.rdf

3. In KompoZer, disable the HandCoder and NsmConText extensions if they are installed.

4. Restart KompoZer. Voilá! You are done.

PHP files can now be edited in KompoZer’s wonderful visual WYSIWYG editor. There is some minor reformatting that will occur, but the content of file will be preserved.

The article below is from the web site of Dr. Richard J. Boylan, Ph.D., LLC at http://www.drboylan.com/openltr2ufocomm.html

I was surprised to discover that while reading the article I found myself both supremely skeptical AND at the same time gleefully pondering the possible arrival of real honest-to-god flying saucers.  Bring it on!
In joy and love and not holding my breath,
Bodhi

Open Letter To the UFO Community and Other Concerned Citizens

Fellow citizens of Earth,

In sharing with you this critically important letter, I am reminded of the opening words of Charles Dickens’s classic A Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
This letter brings you news of great hope for Earth. Yet it also contains sobering and disquieting revelations. Both the good news and the bad news are important for you to have. (more…)
